A personal Favourite and extremely popular in my household! Hot, savory and ready for a family or group!

Serves One Hungry Significant Other
Ingredients:
1.2kg x T-Bone Steak (Rump steak can also work, but it less tender)
1 x packet maggi or masterfoods dry powder stroganoff mix
8x cups water
1 x brown onion
4 x sheets puff pastry
1 x egg
3 x tbsp vegetable oil
Salt & Pepper to season
Method:
1. Dice the onion
2. Prepare the meat – trim all excess fat and season liberally with salt and cracked pepper
3. In a LARGE saucepan, heat the oil, and brown the steaks, pulling each one out at a time.
4. Pour the onions into the pan, using a lower heat to scrape the bottom and get off as much flavor as you can into the onions. Cook until clarified – do NOT allow to fry.
5. Put the steaks back in, along with all their juices
6. Mix the dry powder mix into the water and pour directly over the steaks. Continue pouring water in until the meat is just covered
7. Bring to a boil, then cover, lower the heat to a simmer, and allow to simmer and reduce for the next 1-2 hours. This can take a while so be sure to check in on it, and give it a stir to stop it from sticking to the bottom.
8. Once the liquid has reduced to a nice, semi-thick and meaty gravy, remove from heat.
9. Take all the meat from the gravy and shred it with two forks. (Discard the bones). Return the shredded meat to the gravy, and stir well, keeping it back on a low heat.
10. Prepare your pie crust – i prefer Puff Pastry. Blind bake a double layer in your pie tin, then pour in the filling
11. Cover the pie with 2x layers of puff, and brush with an egg wash. ensure to put in a small vent by cutting an ‘x’ into the pie lid.
12. Bake the pie for 25mins at 180c until the pastry is golden brown
13. Service piping hot on mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries, greens, peas or anything else that gives you comfort. This is the ULTIMATE comfort food.
Personal note: I am lucky to get a spoonful of this one when my house smells it cooking! The ultimate treat, and perfect for winter 😉
