MY FAVOURITE DESSERT! How to Make a Treacle Tart | Cupcake Jemma



I know, I know. You’re confused because you thought my favourite was Eton Mess? Well the truth is that I find it very hard to decide what my favourite dessert is but THIS, my friends, is UP THERE! It’s a real classic and, with a little help from my pal Felicity Cloake, I have got the perfect recipe for Treacle Tart.

Recipe –
One batch of my Shortcrust Pastry –
an egg for the egg wash

140g brown bread crumbs
60g butter
400g Golden Syrup
35g black treacle or molasses
2 tbsp double cream
1 egg + 1 yolk
1 tbsp lemon juice
pinch of salt

    Pretty sure molasses and treacle are fairly similar if not the same thing. I'd assume you could be fairly successful with molasses to make them? I might need to give it a try, I love molasses everything, in Pennsylvania where I grew up we made a pie called shoo-fly that was mostly molasses.

    Disagree with the serving instructions! Treacle Tart shoulkd be served hot with cold single pouring cream.

    We can often find Lyle’s Golden Syrup in our supermarkets in Australia. It is a beautiful golden syrup that has a smoother taste than the syrups produced here. Will def try your treacle tart. Thank you for sharing!

    What a great dessert! In the US I get Lyles Golden Syrup on Amazon 😊 treacle is molasses and double cream is whipping cream. I am going to make this for a brunch I’m hosting

    Lyles golden syrup is available at most grocery stores where I live in Canada (ONTARIO). Food Basics. No Frills etc.

    If your bread is still fresh/soft, then place slices in a low oven to dry out before blitzing, or grating.
    And custard is the best accompaniment to treacle tart! Or treacle pudding, spotted dick, upside down sponge, or cornflake tart – basically anything made with golden syrup!

    Can you use treacle sugar and just melt it down when heating the syrup and butter? I cant find treacle syrup
