It’s the last Vegan recipe in this series and it’s a big one! This is such a naughty cake for all of those chocoholics out there who need to get their plant-based cake on.

Recipe –

480ml soya milk (unsweetened)
2tps apple cider vinegar
240g sunflower or other vegan spread
400g caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
430g self raising flour
60g cocoa powder
1 tbs baking powder
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/4 salt

To decorate, use my Vegan Buttercream, the chocolate version, which can be found here –
More chocolate (vegan of course!)

Have you tried using aquafaba? as a either egg replacer in cake recipie or as a base for vegan meringue or some sort of vegan meringue buttercream?

  19. Sheila May says:

Wow what a simple vegan recipe I can’t wait to try this! I’ve got a question.. with a regular sponge you would cling wrap it in the fridge to harden up hours (or a day) before using it. Would that be ideal and easier for when you come to put the icing on or would that ruin the sponge in any way in terms of softness, moistness, etc?

  20. icelander 22 says:

Would it be ok to put it in one big cake tin? Becouse i want to put a logo and some writing on it and it would not fit like this

Hi Jemma! Or anyone else on here who may know. When you say 170 degrees Celsius, does that mean 170 degrees in a standard oven? Are all the temperatures given as convection oven temperatures and then we should adjust to standard oven temperatures? or are the temperatures given on all of your videos directly translatable to standard ovens? I never realized there was a difference until recently. and it's a pretty big difference. Thank you! Absolutely adore you and all your recipes : ) So inspiring and lovely.
