You lot have very keen eye-sight and are very observant and often comment on the vanilla that I use in my videos. It got me thinking about vanilla and what’s on offer out there vs. what you can make yourself. So I made a video to explain a few things! Hope you enjoy it! x

    I HAVE always wondered about what vanilla extract you use! I noticed it was very syrupy.
    I like to make my own vanilla extract using the alcohol method you demonstrated. Iā€™m making a large batch right now to give out for Christmas!

    My friend just gave me 2 pods… well I opened the container and they were from 2015and they were hard and snapped in half… are they to old? I'd Hate to hurt her feelings and tell her she gave me expired vanilla pods lol

    Vanillin has been synthesized so natural/artificial is identical down to a molecular level. If you are looking for a pure vanillin flavor as you say, artificial is the way to go. You can make a lot of claims for natural vanilla but this isn't one of them. Artificial vanillin is unregulated btw unlike natural vanilla so strength varies wildly which is why the flavor can go from non existent to soapy with the same amount of extract by different makers.

    With the vodka method you can use mason jars and put them into an electric pressure cooker for about an hr and it will make vanilla.
